Job Description
Lithos is seeking a Full-Time GIS Specialist to support projects across the Western United States, reporting into one of three primary regions: Rocky Mountain Region, Pacific Northwest, or West Coast.
This role supports cultural resource and paleontological projects through spatial analysis, geodatabase management, and cartographic production. The selected candidate will work closely with GIS leads and project managers to support day-to-day GIS workflows, data management, and figure production for technical reports and deliverables. This role offers opportunities for increased responsibility and technical growth over time.
Responsibilities:
Use GIS and associated tools to create accurate spatial data products, including custom maps, report figures, data tables, and electronic deliverables using pre-defined templates and established workflows
Perform basic spatial analysis (e.g., attribute queries, spatial queries, data extraction, and simple geoprocessing)
Develop, maintain, and update geodatabases to support project management and analysis
Perform QA/QC on spatial and tabular data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency
Maintain organized project data, file structures, and naming conventions across multiple projects
Assist with integration and management of field-collected data (e.g., Survey123, Field Maps)
Produce high-quality, client-ready cartographic products following company and agency standards
Manage assigned tasks independently, prioritizing deadlines and deliverables across concurrent projects
Provide general GIS support and troubleshooting to internal team members as needed
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in GIS workflows and data management processes
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with major coursework in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
1 year of experience in GIS digital mapping, cartography, geoprocessing, programming, spatial and statistical analysis, and relational databases.
Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and strong familiarity with the Esri ecosystem
Experience with ArcGIS Online, including web maps and data sharing
Experience with Survey123, Field Maps, or similar field data collection tools
Understanding of spatial data structures, creation, and editing workflows
Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong attention to detail, particularly in cartographic production and data QA/QC
Preferred Qualification
Familiarity with cultural resource management, environmental consulting, paleontology, or related industries
3 years of experience in GIS digital mapping, cartography, geoprocessing, programming, spatial and statistical analysis, and relational databases.
Experience producing maps and figures for technical reports or regulatory deliverables
Basic experience with Python or ModelBuilder to automate or streamline GIS tasks
Experience organizing and maintaining data across multiple projects or teams
Familiarity with GPS data collection workflows in a field setting
Demonstrated ability to identify workflow improvements or increase efficiency in GIS processes
