Hire Type: Part-Time/As-Needed, Hourly with overtime compensation at one and half times regular pay, pay dependent on experience.
Salary Range: $25-$35 per hour
Location: Remote, reporting to one of three operating regions:
Rocky Mountain Region; Pacific Northwest; West Coast
Job Description
Lithos is seeking an as-needed GIS specialist to support projects in the Western United States reporting into one of three main locations; Rocky Mountain Region, Pacific Northwest, and the West Coast. The GIS specialist will assist with data analysis and cartography for paleontology and archaeology field work and reporting. The GIS specialist will also assist in mapping paleontology and cultural resource locations for both previous records and newly recorded sites.
Responsibilities:
Use GIS and associated tools to create accurate spatial data products e.g. custom maps, data report tables, and electronic data deliverables.
Develop and maintain spatial databases for mapping and analysis.
Develop and refine methodologies for data entry, data editing, and map production.
Plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative methods to gather and analyze spatial data, synthesizing it into maps, tables, reports, views, and other formats.
Manage timelines and expectations, prioritizing tasks and assembly/delivery of final deliverables.
Deliver accurate, appealing, and user-friendly cartographic products in accordance with client and agency guidelines.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with major coursework in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
1 year of experience in GIS digital mapping, cartography, geoprocessing, programming, spatial and statistical analysis, and relational databases.
Experience with ESRI’s suite of application software and systems and Microsoft Office suite (especially Access and Excel).
Knowledge of datasets, data creation, scripting, and editing.
Familiarity and basic understanding of Surveying and GPS methods, and Skill in reading and interpreting land survey plats and legal descriptions.
Knowledge of geographic/cartographic sciences, interdisciplinary resource management, and database management to administer geospatial databases.
Preferred Qualification
3 years of experience in GIS digital mapping, cartography, geoprocessing, programming, spatial and statistical analysis, and relational databases.
Experience with ArcGIS online and publishing in Fieldmaps
Experience with Survey123 or other field data collection software
Knowledge of appropriate database design principles to identify interrelationships and run spatial analyses within GIS datasets.
